Advantages of this technique

High reliability in rapid continuous treatment processes on thin sheet metal

Single-pass welding

Double-cut shear cutting

Cycle time:

  • 1 strip 1220 mm wide and 0.9mm thick:  23 seconds

Very strong weld

Weld reinforcement less than 10% of the thickness of the strip

Possible option: Malex pre-loading system

Description:

This machine is particularly suitable for fast lines for continuous treatment of thin sheet metal. It requires only a very short stoppage for the butt welding operation. Joints welded by Narrow-Lap machines can be retained during winding. Their very small reinforcement does not mark the adjacent turns.

The Narrow-Lap machine’s pre-loading system makes it the fastest and most efficient start-of-the-range welding machine in the world. The Narrow-Lap machine, equipped with a double squaring shear, carries out the seam welding operation in a single pass. The resulting welded joint will have a mechanical strength greater than the strength of the strips in the annealed state. The planishing operation, carried out after the welding, reduces the total thickness of the welded joint. After the operation, the reinforcement of the joint will be less than 10% of the thickness of the strip (with a minimum of 0.07 mm).

For example, with our pre-loading system, the complete cycle time of this machine, between stopping and restarting of the line, for a strip 1220 mm wide and 0.9 mm thick, is only 23 seconds.
